Sadie

Sadie is where this started. She is an F1, the daughter of a Golden Retriever and a moyen Poodle: apricot, 44 pounds, shaggier than any of our multigens, and ten years old now. She had four litters between 2017 and 2021, was spayed, and has been our house dog ever since. She is the only dog in the program who lives with us, mostly on our bed. Honey is her daughter and Nola is her granddaughter. When families ask what a Juniper Lane dog is like at ten, we bring Sadie out. She still does the full loop at Umstead on a cool morning, and she treats the one good snow we get each winter as a personal gift. Sadie is also why we coat test. As an F1 she has one copy of furnishings, and she sheds a little. Her first litter was sired by an F1b who turned out to have one copy too, and one puppy in that litter grew a flat coat and shed like a Golden Retriever. Nobody could have predicted it back then without a DNA test. We have tested every parent since.
